After completing the IVAS Chinese Herbal Medicine for animals course, she has incorporated Traditional Chinese herbal medicine, as well as a very holistic viewpoint, into her general practice. She is also a second degree Reiki practitioner and has an interest in homeopathy. This allows her to offer the best of Eastern and Western medical traditions to her patients.
She is also very interested in pain management and employs a multi-modal approach to making sure her patients enjoy their golden years. Recently, she began incorporating therapeutic laser treatments to her pain management protocols, with excellent results.
She has received advanced training in Acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine at the Chi Institute in Florida. She focuses on treating the whole patient and their well being by blending current western medicine, complementary and alternative care, diet and nutritional concerns, and behavioral and social concerns.
In her spare time, Dr. Owel has many artistic pursuits such as making jewelry and mixed media projects.
Dr. Miller
Dr. Myra S. Miller received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University in 1990. She has been practicing in northern Virginia ever since, and has been at MVAH since 1996.
She prides herself on being a strong general practitioner able to address all of her patient's medical needs. Her hobbies include involvement in many dog sports. She has had success in competitive obedience at the highest levels and also enjoys flyball, agility, herding and pack hound work. She sees many clients from the sports world who know she will thoughtfully address the issues of their dog partners.
She and her husband have enjoyed the company of many cats and dogs as companions in their home over the years. Current residents include Border Collies and a Border Terrier. They all enjoy outdoor activities like gardening, hiking and RVing. She also volunteer instructs for a local dog obedience club.

Sara
Sara has been working here since late summer 2016 and was made Office Manager in early fall 2019. She loves being here to watch our patients grow an mature over the years. She always wanted to work with animals and is perusing that outside the office by working towards a Veterinarian Technician License at Penn Foster. Sara has two loving kitties of her own at home.
Amanda has been working here since late winter of 2021. She always wanted to work with animals and help them since she was young, working at a vet has always been a dream of hers. Amanda has a wide variety of pets and loves to care for all kinds of animals. In her spare time she enjoys drawing and other arts, as well as volunteering with a local animal rescue and foster cats and kittens. She hopes one day to have her own animal sanctuary to care for all different kinds of animals big and small.

Jason
Jason has been working here since spring 2022. He's currently studying at NOVA working towards getting his veterinary technician license. He loves meeting new pets and learning new skills while he works. He is a bilingual speaker being fluent in English and Spanish. Jason has a loving young beagle named Dubai.
Samantha
Samantha has been working at Mount Vernon Animal Hospital since summer of 2022. Her love for animals began when she was little and hopes to own a rescue farm one day. She is currently working towards her Veterinary Technician License at Northern Virginia Community College. She has a hamster at home named Hammy.
Claudia
Claudia has been working at Mount Vernon Animal Hospital since summer of 2024, pursuing her lifelong passion for animals. She has a lot of experience with horses, and her dream is to one day own a farm where she could rescue all sorts of animals. She also aspires to become a pet groomer. Claudia has cared for various pets over the years including cats, bird, rabbits, and hamsters. Currently she has two dogs of her own a Shih Tzu named Bubbles and a chihuahua named Milo. She is bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish.
Grace
Grace began working at Mount Vernon Animal Hospital in spring of 2024 and quickly found it to be a rewarding experience, helping her grow in the animal care field. She is also attending NOVA, working toward her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Grace enjoys the close-knit team at the hospital, which makes the workplace feel like a second home. She loves interacting with both the pets and their owners. At home, she cares for a variety of animals including seven birds, a hamster, and a dog Pluto.
Jada
Jada is currently a senior at Edison High School, where she is enrolled in the Veterinary Science Academy. Jada stated working at Mount Vernon summer of 2024. From a young age, she has always had a passion for helping animals and has dreamed of opening her own animal hospital one day. Her goal is to become a veterinarian and run her own clinic by the time she turns 30.
